The first is about 2" in diameter. It
has a velvety top and white pores. Turned out to be nothing more then a
Turkeytail mushroom.

Growing out of the top of a fallen tree. If it grew on the side of the
tree it would have grown in a shape of a shelf.
Normal growing Turkeytail. This was
in Rutland in 2005.

This one should have a common name of
Sunny-side-up Polypore. Top of cap.
Bill Neill makes it Ganoderma curtisii


It has a lacquered top and stem. Pores were pure white.
It stood 3" high and had a 2.5" cap. Probably growing out of root of an
oak stump.
