Here is a puffball of some kind that has a relatively massive stalk that was under ground, or more correctly under sand.  No sweat getting the whole mushroom on the Cape :o)
When I cut it open, it looked very much like ripe Earthball inside.
Bill Neill identifies this one as Scleroderma meridionale.

That looks like reticulations at the base of puffball???

Here is an interesting layout of bones.

The right, large bone looked like the skull to me.  Notice the shaded eye socket like shadows.
