White gills but the partial veil remained with the cap rather than the
stem.

Bulbous stem as if Amanita.

Close-up of bulb. Looks like stem stained redish-brown
where handled.

Spores elliptical, almost round. Spores measured 9.6 by 6.7 μm

Note that something is sticking out from some of them. Look at the
top most spore, then the one directly below it and the upper right. Help
from Clive Shirley, in New Zealand, in giving a name to these things as apiculus
or Hilar Appendage. "This is the point were it was attached to the
basidia."
