Day 3 of the Hunt for the Inonotus
obliquus fruiting body.

Went back to Grafton and looked at the
fallen Yellow Birch again. Did not see anything new so I again looked at
that triangular shaped polypore. Then I checked the surface below where it
was attached. It was dark brown and soft to the touch. I took a
close-up picture of that surface.
Near the top of the picture it looks like open pores and sides of tubes.
It was about 2 to 3 mm thick. It looked dead, last years. The hunt
goes on for the living version.
