Chaga Articles

I have only found a few articles on the Internet.  There is still very little information available about Chaga.  The article by Kahlee Keane appears to have the most reliable information as to how to prepare Chaga infusion for treatment of what ails you.
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) A Medicinal Fungus by Kahlee Keane (48kb PDF)

There are some parts that are not clear.  She says
"The infusion can be used for up to 4 days."
"...course of treatment, lasting 4 to 7 months, with short breaks if necessary."
These two statements appear to be contradictory.  Does the infusion lose its potency after four days?  Why a break after 4 days?  How long should this break be?

There are many recipes for preparing a Chaga tea or tonic.  I tried several versions and this is the one I came up for myself because it is the simplest.  I prepare it in a 2 gallon pot.  I boil about 2 gallons of tap water then take the pot off the heat.  I cut up / break up the Chaga into about 1" pieces and add about 4 handfuls to the water.  I cover the pot with a lid and let it stand 2 days.  After 2 days I strain it into plastic soda bottles and put it in the refrigerator.  When I want to drink it, I fill half a glass and add an equal amount of diet ginger ale.  It makes a refreshing drink.  I drink about 3 glasses a day.  When I run out of Chaga I take a break until I find more.
