Agaricus subrufescens
Lincoff guide does not describe this mushroom. Mushrooms of
Northeastern North America does, page 54-55.
As growing. Like to grow in groups.
Growing in duff under Balsam Fir, on the side of a trail. Largest cap about 4".
Underside of the one shown above, in the
upper right corner. Cap about 4".
Distinct pattern of scales.
Underside of younger, where the gills are
still pink. Note the enlarged base of stem.
