Here is another.

I was looking into the cracks in the bark
of the birch, near where the Chaga used to grow. At a two foot crack in
the bark, where the bark pealed back I noticed what looked like small but long
(2') structure. At first I thought it might be just a buildup of
trash that rain washed into the crack but it felt too firm. I broke off
the bark on top and bottom and the structure was still attached to the trunk of
the birch. Here is the top view while it was still attached to the birch.
It is the structure on the bottom of the picture. It is sticking about
3/4" out from the trunk.

I used a knife to pry loose a 4" piece of
it. It is roughly triangular in shape. The right side is the part
that was attached to the birch.
