A young Red-mouth Bolete aka Boletus subvelutipes

The colors are brilliant!

After picking.  Note the blue staining on the stem.

A baby bolete (1.25" high) which has a tapered root at the bottom of stem (not visible).

Top.  Cap 1" diameter.

Looks like it is under attack by a Hypomyces of some sort.  Note white at the edge of cap.

This one looks like the same mushroom where the attack progressed.
