I left the caps to dry. On 6/28/08 there was a distinct smell of maple syrup.
So it is a Candy Cap

This small Lactarius reminds me of the
Candy Cap but there is no smell of any kind. The caps were from less than
1/4" to about 1". Growing in moss which is on an oak stump.
I left the caps to dry. On 6/28/08 there was a distinct smell of maple
syrup.
So it is a Candy Cap
Lactarius camphoratus
The larger caps had a depression in the center.
Underside. Off white in color.
Spore print white. Spore looks spherical and 5.8
microns.
